Force Index

Combines price change and volume — measures the force behind a price move. Force Index (FI) multiplies the change in closing price by trading volume. Positive values indicate bullish force, negative values — bearish force. It is usually smoothed with an EMA (2-period for short-term signals, 13-period for long-term).

Formula:

Force Index (raw) = (Close - Close_prev) * Volume
Force Index = EMA(raw, period)
